Learning Lab - March 7, 2021
Please join us on Sunday, March 7, 2021 between 10am and 1pm for our monthly Toastmasters District 100 Learning Lab. We have one hour sessions in three experiences to help you and your club thrive as you continue to work towards your personal and your club's goals. This month's Learning Lab includes a the Contest Training experience in advance of the upcoming club, area, and division contests!
Choose from the following experiences (you're welcome to mix and match classes from different experiences):
• Developing Interesting Speech Topics: 10am - 11am
• Introducing and Expanding your Pathway Journey: 11am - 12pm
• Developing a Strong Speech Opening: 12pm – 1pm
• Inducting a New Member into the Club: 10am - 11am
• Social Media – Facebook 101: 11am – 12pm
• Social Media – Q&A Time: 12pm - 1pm
• Developing Leaders – How to Delegate Effectively: 10am - 11am
• Journey to DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster): 11am – 12pm
• How to be a Super Club Sponsor, Mentor or Coach: 12pm - 1pm

Learning Lab Opportunities March 7, 2021
10:00 – 11:00 sessions
**Member Experience – Developing Interesting Speech Topics
You are scheduled to give a speech for your club. You are now wondering what to talk about! Choosing a topic can be more challenging that giving the actual speech. In this session we will provide a framework for helping you to choose a suitable speech topic.
Objectives:
• Learn the components to think about in selecting a topic
• Learn how to match your topic with your audience.
• Sample List of interesting topics
**Club Experience – Inducting a New Member into the Club
New member inductions are important to conduct at a Toastmasters club. The sense of inclusion by belonging to a group is extremely important. This feeling, which fosters well being, is associated with the positive aspects of our organization. The more we identify with the club, the more members will stay with us. The Induction ceremony begins that process. We highly recommend this activity for every club. Come and learn how to have a fun and short new member induction ceremony!!
Objectives
• Learn the importance of doing a new member induction ceremony
• Learn the process of the inducting a new member
• Share and discuss how the club can conduct the ceremony
**Leadership Experience – Developing Leaders – How to Delegate Effectively
Knowing how to delegate effectively is one of the most powerful skills a leader needs in their tool box. We cannot do the work alone. We know that it helps others develop new skills and to enjoy more responsibility as well as building trust and demonstrates our confidence in the people we work with. There are specific strategies that are available to help us in this leadership area. If you are interested in improving this skill, this session is for you Come and learn!
Objectives:
• What is delegation and why is it important
• What are the levels of delegation
• Methods for monitoring and follow up
• Ensuring accountability
11:00 – 12:00 Sessions
**Member Experience – Introducing and Expanding your Pathway Journey
Pathways is our learning experience program. It is an exciting and different way of learning. If you have any questions, concerns, or need some encouragement, this session is for you. Bring those concerns or issues to our session and let us help you move forward.
Objectives:
• Help members in any question, concern, or issue to move forward
• Provide assistance with current members who are stuck
• Provide information and resources for members
**Club Experience – Social Media Workshop: Facebook 101
This session will conduct a 30 minute educational portion which will cover the four aspects of Facebook 101. Following the educational portion, a 10 minute exercise will be conducted where everyone can create a post and then post it on their Facebook page. A 10 minute Q and A will follow the exercise. If you want to learn more about Facebook, this is the session for you.
Objectives:
• Learn how to set up an account/page
• Learn how to post to the page
• Learn where to get/make content
• Learn about hashtags - what they are and how to use them
**Leadership Experience – Journey to DTM
The journey to Distinguished Toastmaster (highest award) is an exciting and rewarding experience. If you are interested in taking this wonderful journey, this session is for you! It will help you plan, move through the steps, and enjoy receiving the highest award in the organization. Some people choose to take this journey more than once…you can receive as many DTM’s as you want to earn. Here is an opportunity to be guided and mentored through the process with an experienced DTM.
Objectives:
• Assessment of what is needed by Individual interested members
• Assignments to positions or tasks necessary to complete requirements
• Can begin the journey at any time
• Guidance and mentoring will be provided as necessary for committed members
12:00 – l:00 Sessions
**Member Experience – Developing a Strong Speech Opening
The first moments of a speech are critical to its success. If they are dull, lifeless, and unimaginative, the audience can lose interest in the rest of the speech. However, an exciting, creative beginning will help grab and keep listeners’ attention. If you want to learn to have a great opening to your next speech, this is the session for you.
Objectives:
• Learn the important parts for a successful opening
• Techniques for opening a speech
• Other fun techniques
• Items to avoid in opening a speech
**Club Experience – Social Media – Q & A Time
Need assistance in using social media???? This session is designed for you! Here is an opportunity to bring your questions and issues with you for this session. The facilitator will provide you with the best possible answer to your questions. Come and Learn!
Objectives:
• To respond to D100 members questions or issues with social media
• To share with other attendees methods for using social media.
**Leadership Experience – How to be a Super Club Sponsor, Mentor, or Coach
You want to try your hand in leading? You need to serve in one of the roles for credit towards a DTM award? You want to experience helping others? You want to give back what you have gained? This session is designed for these purposes. We need super club sponsors, mentors, and coaches for our clubs. It is a good time to throw your hat in the ring and try. This is a fun way of developing leadership skills.
Objectives:
• Learn the roles and responsibilities of a sponsor a mentor, and a coach
• Determine what opportunities that are available for each category
• Possibly be assigned to a club with the appropriate designation
• If filled a position, receive credit for serving
