Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, and serves as Wisconsin's 45th Lieutenant Governor. He is the first African-American to serve as a Lieutenant Governor in Wisconsin, the second African-American to ever hold statewide office, and the youngest Lieutenant Governor in the country.
Dan Kaufman is the author of The Fall of Wisconsin: The Conservative Conquest of a Progressive Bastion and the Future of American Politics, published by W.W. Norton in 2018. He has also written for The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, and The Nation, among other publications. Originally from Wisconsin, he is currently living in the Catskills with his wife and son.
Emma Roller has written about politics for The New York Times, The Atlantic, HuffPost, Jezebel, Teen Vogue, Slate, and In These Times, among other places. She lives in Milwaukee, the frozen custard capital of the world.
Walter Shapiro is covering his eleventh presidential campaign, this time for The New Republic. He is also a lecturer in political science at Yale and a fellow at the Brennan Center for Justice. He has covered prior campaigns for such publications as USA Today, Time, Newsweek, and The Washington Post. He is the author of two books: One-Car Caravan, on the race for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination and, in 2016, Hustling Hitler, the story of his con-man great-uncle—a vaudeville agent, race-fixer, and jewel-smuggler who fleeced the Nazis on a 1935 nickel deal.
