TMSI Travel Health Master Class
Registration and Welcome address from the President of the Travel Medicine Society of Ireland. Patricia attended the inaugural meeting of TMSI (formally the Irish Society of Travel Medicine) in the Royal Hospital in Donnybrook in 1995. Since then, she has shared her passion for travel medicine among her nurse colleagues and TMSI members. She has over 30 years of experience and hold a Diploma in Tropical Nursing from RCSI since 1995. In a world where competence is not static, virus and vector patterns are changing, Patricia strongly believes that ongoing education is a must for ensuring best practice and patient safety. Patricia will be your host for the day and guide your learning for the day.
"Altitude Sickness, the Risks, Reality and Prevention"
Professor Gerard Flaherty will deliver a presentation titled: "Altitude Sickness, the Risks, Reality and Prevention". Given Gerard's wealth of clinical knowledge and personal experience of hiking at high altitude, this presentation is sure to deliver on all the key areas of concern and provide you with the knowledge to advise your travellers appropriately. The sky's the limit! There will also be an opportunity for Q&As following the presentation.
The Student Traveller in South East Asia
Dr Judy Dwyer has been providing travel related healthcare for many years to the student population at UCC. This particular cohort of travellers are often young, inexperienced and are regularly travelling for up to a month at a time. One area of travel which is popular with this group is South East Asia. While Judy will focus her presentation on the specific travel health in Vietnam around the Ha Giang Loop, she will also consider the needs of this group when travelling abroad.
