About this Event

TMORA's Saturday Picture-Book Clubhouse

On the third Saturday of each month, join the 6-8 year-olds in your life on a fun-filled journey exploring the art, culture, and stories of Russia and its people found in a different picture-book every month. Every child will receive a copy of the featured book for you to read together at home!

Featured book for January:

I See the Sun in Russia by Dedie King, illustrated by Judith Inglese

Leah Luzhansky will bring the books alive as she explains their Russian elements and presents related hands-on activities. Leah is an avid reader and she has taught at Concordia Language Villages and the Russian Educational Center of Minnesota.

Having children reading at grade level by the end of third grade is a community initiative to guarantee future academic success, and The Museum of Russian Art is proud to be a part this literacy effort with its Saturday Picture-Book Clubhouse.

Pre-registration is required. Space is limited.

Members (includes one adult and one child) - $10.00; each additional child - $5.00

Non-members (includes one adult and one child) - $15.00; each additional child - $7.50

MORE ABOUT JANUARY'S FEATURED BOOK:

Through the eyes of a child, I See the Sun in Russia is the story of a day in the life of Anton, a young boy growing up in St. Petersburg, Russia. Anton loves to play the violin and he and his family hope that one day he will play in an orchestra. On this day his class takes a field trip to the Hermitage Palace, but there's still time for violin lessons and playing soccer in the hall of his apartment building before supper. A country overview and glossary is included for parents and teachers who want to go beyond the story and talk more about Russia and why it is important. In English and Russian. For ages 5 and up. This is the fourth book in the I See the Sun series. - Goodreads

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
