FACE: Black Panther ($100)
The Black Panther Party, original name Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, African American revolutionary party, founded in 1966 in Oakland, California, by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale. The party’s original purpose was to patrol African American neighborhoods to protect residents from acts of police brutality.●You’re the new FACE of the Black Panther Party. Contestants must bring it in the unofficial/official Black Panther uniform (Black Leather Jackets, Afros, Black Berets). Show the judges why you’re the new face for this revolutionary party. (European): Egyptian Goddess ($100)
Isis the most powerful and popular goddess in Egyptian history. She was associated with virtually every aspect of human life and, in time, became elevated to the position of supreme deity, "Mother of the Gods", who cared for her fellow deities as she did for human beings.●You’re risen from the afterlife & you’re ready bless the world with your presence. Contestants must serve the runway in an Egyptian Goddess look (colourfully embroidered linen, head pieces, jewelry, etc). Do your research.RUNWAY (All American):
Egyptian God ($100)
Osiris: is the Egyptian Lord of the Underworld and Judge of the Dead, brother-husband to Isis, and one of the most important gods of ancient Egypt. He was classically depicted as a green-skinned deity with a pharaoh's beard. His green skin symbolizes rebirth.●You’re reborn into the new world & you’re ready to show your presence. Contestants must strut the runway in a garment that was worn by Osiris, partially mummy-wrapped at the legs, a distinctive atef crown, a symbolic crook and flail. Do your research.
SEX SIREN: Harlem Roaring 20’s ($100)
The Harlem Renaissance was the development of the Harlem neighborhood in NewYork City as a black cultural mecca in the early 20th Century and the subsequent social and artistic explosion that resulted. The period is considered a golden age in African American culture, manifesting in literature, music, stage performance and art.●You’re invited to an exclusive speakeasy & the password is SEXUAL LIBERATION. Contestants must serve a 1920s inspired look (flappers, the masculine look, cloche hats, and evening and day dresses). Other 1920s inspired looks include short suit jackets, cuffed trousers, waistcoats and wide-leg "Oxford Bags". Sports and leisure influenced attire like jumpers, jodhpurs and knickerbockers. The famous 'Zoot Suit' was also a strong fashion statement. Contestants must serve their interpretation of sexual liberation. Do your research.
SCHOOL BOY/GIRL/NON-BINARY REALNESS: HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities ($50):Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are institutions of higher education in the United States that were established before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with the intention of primarily serving the African-American community.●Congratulations! You’ve been accepted into a Historically Black College/University & you have to attend orientation. Contestants must serve a “first day of school” inspired look (from the 1960s). Always remember, first impressions are everything. Do your research.
VIRGIN VOGUE: The Pan African Flag ($50)
The three Pan-African colors on the flag represent: Red: the blood that unites all people of Black African ancestry, and shed for liberation; Black: black people whose existence as a nation, though not a nation-state, is affirmed by the existence of the flag; and Green: symbol of growth and the natural fertility of Africa.●First time stepping out for the world to see you? Contestants must serve all 5 ELEMENTS in order to get your 10s. You must incorporate The Pan African Flag colors (all 3 colors) within your look. Power To The People. Do Your Research.
VOGUE PERFORMANCE: Blaxploitation Film/Character ($200)
Blaxploitation or blacksploitation is an ethnic subgenre of the exploitation film that emerged in the UnitedStates during the early 1970s. The films, while popular, suffered backlash for disproportionate numbers of stereotypical film characters showing bad or questionable motives, including roles as criminals. However, the genre does rank among the first in which black characters and communities are the heroes and subjects of film and television, rather than sidekicks or villains or victims of brutality.●Can you dig it? We’re back in the era of the 1970s. Contestants must serve all 5 elements in order to get your 10s. Your look must be inspired by a 1970s blaxploitation film/character (ex: Shaft, Foxy Cleopatra, Superfly). Do your research.
