Description

Happy new year and we hope that 2018 brings you happiness and joy. You can now register for our first training of 2018, which is taking place on Friday, February 16th from 12:00 to 3:00pm. This particular training will be focused less on digital literacy and more on skills we can provide you so you can confidently and appropriately manage emergency situations that may arise in your computer labs and public learning spaces.

From 12:00 to 1:30, we will have lunch and a training from Dr. Laura Bamford of Philadelphia FIGHT. Dr. Bamford will be teaching us on how to identify and manage an overdose situation, as well as how to administer Narcan. With the opioid crisis having hit Philadelphia hard, and staff from public spaces such as libraries getting trained on these life-saving skills, we wanted to bring TLC members this great learning opportunity.

From 1:30 to 3:00, we will have a training from our new friends at the Mobile CPR Project, which is a public health initiative aimed at raising awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and increasing bystander intervention. The Project accomplishes this by teaching individuals how to perform hands-only CPR and showing proper use of an AED.

Please rsvp so that we have an accurate headcount for lunch. Also note that the training will be limited to a certain number of guests to accommodate space for CPR demonstrations on mannequins, so RSVP only if you are committed to attending, and please avoid RSVP’ing multiple times. If you are inviting guests not currently subscribed to this email list, they will have to register online as well.

Here is some information on our terrific presenters!

Laura Bamford, MD, MSCE is a Physician at the Jonathan Lax Treatment Center and Medical Director of Clinica Bienestar, both of Philadelphia FIGHT. Dr. Bamford is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Her specialties are in the following areas: HIV testing, engagement in HIV care, hepatitis C (HCV) and Human Papillomavirus (HPV). She is bilingual in Spanish and English. She received her medical training from Jefferson Medical College graduating Summa Cum Laude. Laura completed her residency at Columbia University Medical Center and her fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. For more information, visit http://fight.org.

The Mobile CPR Project was created to increase survival from sudden cardiac arrest. To do this, the Project travels to you to teach you CPR. This program is an initiative supported by the City of Philadelphia and other partners such as the three local hospitals, the fire department and the police department.
