ABOUT THE MEETING
The <A HREF="https://commonfund.nih.gov/HuBMAP" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Human BioMolecular Atlas Program</A> (HuBMAP), supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) <A HREF="https://commonfund.nih.gov/HuBMAP" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Common Fund</A>, will hold its first mini-workshop on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Neuroscience Center Building on the Executive Boulevard campus. The purpose of the workshop is to identify some of the challenges in collecting, preserving, and annotating high quality human tissue that will be used for downstream analytical techniques such as liquid (liberase) and slide based (i.e., LCM, super-resolution microscopy) dissociation, single cell RNAseq, FISH, immune-fluorescence as well as emerging techniques such as MERFISH, FISSEQ, seqFISH, MIBI-TOF, and 3-dimensional high end imaging.
At the end of the workshop we hope to have a better understanding of the challenges this new program might face in collecting and pre-analytical processing of tissue specimens and how this processing will impact the quality of data collected by different single cell, tissue, and imaging assays. One key component is to record the spatial orientation of samples relative to anatomical landmarks (and build this into the sample management pipeline). Another key component is the analysis, then integration and iteration of data from multiple imaging and omics assays to develop comprehensive molecular (and -omic) profiles of the cells within the tissue, including location information. A third key component is to understand sources of variability (within tissue samples from same patient, across multiple tissues, and across multiple donors). These components are all strongly dependent on how tissue is collected, processed, and preserved prior to analysis.

Metrorail service is available from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and from Union Station (railway). Take Metro's Red Line to the Medical Center Metro station. From the station, NIH employees can take the "Executive Plaza" (also known as the orange route) shuttle bus which drops you off in front of building 6001. Visitors can exit the Red Line at the White Flint Metro station and board a Ride-On bus (routes 5, 26, or 81) for service along Executive Boulevard. Take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway south toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34 which is Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Avenue/Rockville Pike) and head north toward Rockville. Drive approximately 2.4 miles and turn left onto Old Georgetown Road. At the second light, turn right onto Executive Boulevard. The building is on your immediate right and visitor parking is at the second driveway entrance.

Head east on the Dulles Airport Access Road for approximately 13 miles. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north to Bethesda/Baltimore. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 38 (I-270 north to Rockville-Frederick). Proceed approximately 3 miles to Montrose Road (east) Exit 4A. Drive 1.5 miles, bearing right onto Montrose Parkway. Turn right onto Executive Boulevard. Proceed for 1/2 mile. The Neuroscience Building, 6001 Executive Boulevard, is on the left.

Head north on the George Washington Parkway for approximately 12 miles. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north to Maryland. From the Beltway (I-495), take (I-270) and head north towards Rockville. Stay to the right and bear off to the "Connector/Distributor" lanes. Exit at Montrose Road (east). Drive approximately 1.5 miles, bearing right onto Montrose Parkway. Turn right onto Executive Boulevard. Proceed for 1/2 mile. The Neuroscience Building, 6001 Executive Boulevard, is on the left.
