Event description

Description

Why this workshop?

We have seen many exhausted and fed-up feminist faces at CSW and other tough multilateral spaces lately. Even some tears of exhaustion last year.

So we're doing something about it, in a small but hopefully useful way.

While we will all work hard in this increasingly difficult multilateral context including CSW60, and in all these places where we confront so many challenges, we will ALSO take time out and tune up together.

Come and join a fierce and fun creative space by/for feminists and women human rights defenders from all regions who are working at CSW60. This is not just about fun (although a welcome add-on). This is a strategy for survival and resistance, as feminists work inside, around and beyond institutions including the United Nations. How do we keep ourselves tuned in, turned up and on, and occasionally able to drop out? Lets discuss that.

What kinds of sessions and activities?

Practical information on various hot issues including how south and north CSOs and social movements can work better togetherl. Discussions on better do self-care in feminist groups, healthy ways to do 'challenge and critique'...And that's just the start of it...

We'll have short visual information briefings, discussion circles, creative strategies and tools, performances and room participation in music, dance, rally chants, body work, short meditation and more. Introvert and extrovert options, of course! And a healthy lunch.

Who is this by and for?

Around 40 diverse feminists and women human rights defenders from all regions (RSVP). We'll need to be strict on numbers due to room size, hotel policies, etc. This is a CSO space.

The convenors are Diverse Voices and Action (DIVA) for Equality, a feminist collective of sex and gender diverse women, trans masculine and gender non-conforming women from Fiji. We're organising with allies from groups and networks such as Regions Refocus 2015, Frida Young Feminist Fund, DAWN, IWHC, Women's Major Group, and other artists, activists, gender specialists and facilitator friends, etc.

Lead facilitators: Shirley Tagi shirleytagi@gmail.com Noelene Nabulivou noelenen@gmail.com

*Requests:

If you have portable instruments, please bring them along and let us know prior if possible.

If you can sing or dance or have another talent please tell us.

Also bring a red scarf if you have one handy (Any size, any length, any shade of red);

Please wear comfortable clothes. We will be sitting on the floor, moving a lot, and doing gentle bodywork so very casual - We also encourage you to take off your shoes when you enter, so please bring/wear socks if not a bare-foot person/if your feet get cold in the chilly NY winter. We'll bring a touch of the tropics with us. Maybe.

Most importantly, come and have fun, discuss and learn, rest, and affirm feminist arts praxis, feminists and women human rights defenders from all over the world.

All women, all people, all human rights, everywhere (including CSW60)

Thanks, DIVA for Equality, Fiji
