About the Event
This evocative solo programme from guitarist Tim Beattie explores the unexpectedly deep links between Scottish and Spanish musical traditions. Baroque dances from the 17th-century Rowallen Lute Book and Gaspar Sanz’s Suite Española reveal a shared musical vocabulary that was shaped by Europe’s early cultural exchanges and is echoed in the “Canaries” that appear in both sources. Bridging past and present, a newly crafted arrangement of Philip Glass’s Partita by Tim Beattie shows the continuity of musical imagination across the centuries.
A compelling programme that explores music as a vessel of memory, imagination, and belonging.
Internationally acclaimed guitarist Tim Beattie, recently named one of CBC Music’s ‘Hot 30 Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30’, will return to Ontario this November for a three-concert recital tour, bringing his distinctive blend of virtuosic performance and imaginative programming to audiences across the province.
Praised as “charismatic” (The Bath Festival) and “a most subtle and able artist” (Perthshire Advertiser), Beattie has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Perth Concert Hall, and major festivals throughout North America and Europe.
