Event description

Description

Come to the Bellevue Library on September 22nd to see the first TILE Talk of the year, featuring speaker Dr. Jim Olson.

Tumors recognition is one of the most elusive parts of medical research. Transparent and difficult to pinpoint, tumors can be deadly and is one of the foremost problems in cancer research.

Naturally Dr. Jim Olson was intrigued. Working in the pediatric oncology departments of Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington, he engineered “Tumor Paint”- a cutting edge technology using scorpion ink to illuminate tumors. This breakthrough is only one of many that Dr. Olson's accomplishment. More recently he has focused his attention on brain tumors, asking: How and why do tumors become resistant to drugs?

Dr. Olson is also the founder of Seattle based Blaze Biosciences, a Seattle based biotech company focused on cancer research.
