Event Details

NEXT is a complete hands-on program for developing and validating your business idea based on a comprehensive curriculum rooted in Steve Blank's Customer Development methodology, built around in-person interactions with potential customers and delivered by an accredited NEXT instructor.

What you will learn:

  • How to generate assumptions to validate about your assumed customer's needs, motivations and their behaviors. 
  • How to find and reach out to people for interviews that match your assumed customer segments.
  • How to define experiments that validate or invalidate assumptions you have about your business model. 
  • How to develop your own customer discovery interview plan.
  • How to conduct effective customer discovery interviews.
  • How to turn customer feedback into real insight.

Preparation

Enroll on Udacity

Sign up for an account with Udacity at www.udacity.com and register for the class - How to Build a StartUp - EP245 (in the Intermediate Course section). This will bring you to the main EP245 class page and click “Enroll.” Once enrolled, watch the following:

Week 1  
The Art of Customer Discovery
Overview of the theory and the best practices for conducting Customer Discovery.

Week 2
Opportunity Assessment & Initial Team Presentations
Assessing the business opportunity by understanding the size of the market, competitive landscapes and the Business Model Canvas.

Week 3
Team Presentations with Lean Experiments
Teams will present their customer discovery insights, validated/invalidated assumptions and experiment their solutions. 

Week 4
Team Presentations with Revenue Streams Validation
Teams will present their customer discovery insights and validated/invalidated their revenue streams assumptions.

Week 5
NEXT Final Presentations
Each team will present a comprehensive overview of their insights gained and major assumptions validated or invalidated.

Startup Weekend

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over a thousand past events in 110+ countries around the world.

The non-profit organization is located in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.
