Tijuana market hop
Sun, March 26, 2017, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM PDT
On Sundays, the hilltop streets of Tijuana are filled by swapmeets so massive – blocks and blocks of vendors selling mountains of the most random secondhand loot. Even if you make your way out of the bargain bin maze without dropping a single peso, you’ll walk away having lived an essential Mexican experience: the mercado.
We'll do stops at three of Tijuana's most iconic tianguis: the city's longest-running flea market, the Mercado de Artesanías and Mercado Miguel Hidalgo, the city's oldest open-air market in Zona Rio.
Tickets include roundtrip border transportation and complimentary pan dulce upon arrival.
The group meets on the U.S. side of the border at the San Ysidro Transit Center at 10 a.m., with an estimated return to the border at 4 p.m.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
This is an all-ages tour. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Passports are mandatory regardless of age.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
We strongly recommend taking the San Diego trolley, as parking lots often costly – some charge up to $25US for eight hours – and often full. On weekends the last downtown-bound trolley departs San Ysidro at 12:58 a.m. More info at sdmts.com.
If driving, take either Interstate 5 or 805 south and get off at the last exit, but be careful not to miss that last exit and actually cross into Mexico. Park at any of the lots – we recommend the ones next to Jack in the Box, a left at the exit and a right at the next light – but give yourself 20-30 minutes because, again, lots are often full.
