Event description

Description

You are invited to join us at John Carroll University this January for a two-day workshop on Trauma-Informed Interview Principles (TiIPS), with a focus on the neurobiology of trauma, interviewing techniques, and interpretation of forensic evidence.

As many Title IX and criminal justice professionals have learned in recent years, survivors of trauma face unique obstacles in recalling certain details of their experience. Traditional investigative techniques often render investigators without ample information, and force survivors of trauma to relive their experiences in devastating and damaging ways.

But with an investigative approach grounded in the realities of trauma and the neuroscience of memory, investigators can minimize harm while gathering invaluable forensic evidence that goes beyond the "who, what, when, where, why" of the incident.

Join us for a practice-based workshop with expert Dave Markel on conducting effective forensic interviews with survivors of trauma.

About our facilitator: David W. Markel

David W. Markel is a criminal justice and Title IX compliance professional with expertise from 34 years' experience working in sexual assault and intimate-partner violence investigation. He has traveled around the world training law enforcement, military personnel, victim advocacy organizations, child protective services, and mental health practitioners in the nuances of investigation, victim treatment, and predatory behaviors.

Dave is one of the foremost experts in training professionals on Trauma-Informed Interview Principles, an interview and investigation approach based in the neuroscience of human trauma reactions and best-practice approaches to victim memory and post-assault behaviors. Dave’s presentation content includes promoting and educating others on this revolutionary interview technique. More information available on his website: http://markel-consulting.com/.
