Event description

Description

Mandatory Volunteer Meeting will be July 21, 2019 at noon, if you cannot attend this meeting you will not be taken as a volunteer.

**Please be aware of the expectations for the crews you are choosing. If you choose and are assigned to a crew and cannot perform the expectations of your crew you will be removed from that crew and placed on the bottom of the waitlist. Being placed on the waitlist does not guarantee that you will be placed on a crew. Unfortunately, we have been having too many people selecting positions that they are not able to do and this has required us to become more strict with how we select volunteers.

If you have ever attended a leather event of any size, you already know that no event can happen without the commitment and energy of volunteers. The success of Thunder in the Mountains is due to many volunteer members and a lot of hard work, sweat, and commitment. Comments in past years have praised the friendly, knowledgeable and helpful volunteer membership staff, and this year we plan to continue and improve that tradition. Our volunteers are one of the big reasons that people return year after year to enjoy Thunder.

There are many areas that you, as a volunteer member, can serve. In exchange for working a minimum of 10 hours during the Thunder weekend (various times from Thursday to Sunday) and attending a MANDATORY volunteer meeting which is generally the Sunday before the event weekend, you receive

  1. Full one year membership in Thunder in the Mountains, LLC.

  2. One full event packet to Thunder in the Mountains.

  3. A volunteer member T-shirt.

Volunteers must sign all releases and rules required under general membership rules.

Currently, we have openings in the following departments:

Seminars: You must be available to work any shifts on Saturday and Sunday. You will also be expected to assist presenters, lift up to 30 pounds, move supplies into and out of each presentation as needed, greet attendees and answer questions. You will need to be able to observe the classes and limit distractions, stand for long periods of time, and if need be notify the Seminars Director if there is anything is happening that you feel puts anyone at risk or violates any of our rules. The expectation is to contact a Director or Brian and not to intervene in the situation unless you feel its an emergency.

Security: You must be available to work any shifts starting at 6pm on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We will be running 24 hour security this year. You will be expected to show up for shift a few minutes early to check in with your shift supervisor, get your placement and radio, and be able to relieve the crew you are replacing. Some of your job duties will be to check badges of all individuals entering the secure area, monitoring all entrances for those who do not belong, make sure everyone leaving the secure area is properly dressed for the vanilla areas of the hotel, observing all areas for cameras and any “vanilla violations”, as well as, answering questions.

Registration: You must be available to work any shifts starting at 6pm on Thursday, all day Friday and Saturday. Some of your job expectations are that you greet attendees in a friendly manner with a big smile and thank you, process registrations quickly and correctly, and distribute run bags and any pre-purchased items.

Dungeon: You must be available to work any shifts starting at 8am on Thursday, reset on Friday and Saturday as needed, and 8am on Sunday. You are not required to work all shifts, but must be available for scheduling of any of these times. You will need to be able to lift and move at least 50 pounds, some knowledge of tools is a plus, crouching, standing and kneeling for long periods of time, working with others is a must. You will be expected to act safely and dress appropriately in jeans and a tee shirt with closed toe shoes whenever you are in the space during build. Shift schedules are non-negotiable, you must be available for all shifts.

Dungeon Monitors: This is a special category; if you are an experienced DM and want to give three hours of time during the play parties, but must register to attend Thunder as a regular paying attendee. Please apply to be a DM in the special DM box below. You may also apply as a regular volunteer in the regular volunteer boxes, but you will still have to work a minimum of 10 hours as a volunteer PLUS your 3 hours as a DM.

If you wish to apply to be a volunteer for Thunder in the Mountains please go to https://thundervolunteers2019.eventbrite.com and fill out your application today.
