Throwing Biomechanics: Assessment & Training

Daniel Wolocko PT, SCS, CSCS


This 2 day course is specifically designed for physical therapists and athletic trainers dedicated to understanding, teaching, training, and rehabilitating the Overhead Athlete. The course content is specifically catered toward baseball pitching, however can be readily applied to all overhead athletes.


ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Daniel Wolocko is the Director of Mercy Elite Sports Performance and Therapy at St. Mary Mercy in Livonia. He is board certified as a clinical specialist in sports physical therapy and as a specialist in strength and conditioning through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Dan is also a certified pitching coach through the National Pitching Association and as a golf fitness instructor through the Titleist Performance Institute. He specializes in the assessment and training of body movement to enhance sport performance and prevent injury. Dan is a graduate of Central Michigan University with a Bachelors of Science in Health Promotion and Rehabilitation and Grand Valley State University with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify and understand how to assess the biomechanics and movement sequencing of throwing athletes.

• Recognize how to teach someone how to throw for injury rehabilitation, injury reduction, and performance improvement.

• Describe the pathology of common throwing related injuries and how to effectively develop and utilize movement screening and corrective exercise to address key impairments during rehabilitation.


Continuing Education

UMHS MedSport, BOC AP#: P546, is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 14.5 Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

UMHS MedSport retains the right to cancel the course at any time. UMHS MedSport is not responsible for expenses incurred in case of cancellation. Requests for refunds must be made in writing, 15 days prior to course date. Requests made less than 15 days prior to the course date are subject to $50 charge.
