Pirate FOOLS, Leather & Irons Training Solutions LLC., and the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department have all partnered together to bring you THE BEST in Through-The-Lock firefighter forcible entry!

You are going to break/ manipulate/ use/ learn real locks and get a great presentation and a ton of hands-on tool time. We are going to give you the key to the city.

Same delivery each day (1-day class, offered both Saturday and Sunday).

Open to firefighters, law enforcement, and EMS personnel. Volunteer/ career - everyone is welcome.

Must be an active member/ employee in good standing of an agency for security reasons/ confidentiality of the material covered. Include your affiliation in the appropriate box on the registration. Send us a message with any questions or concerns. Personnel with extenuating circumstances (i.e. in good standing but retired or not actively affiliated) will be dealt with on a case by case review.

Often Fire Departments and EMS personnel respond to calls such as welfare checks, building searches for different reasons, alarms after hours, and lockout situations. Has their training prepared them for success or failure?

This nine-hour class consists of a short PPT lasting about two hours. It will cover the rules of forcible entry, types of tools used, forcible entry size-up, and construction of doors, as well as other hardware they may face. The majority of the class is hands on. Each student will rotate through multiple stations forcing various styles of locks. They will have an opportunity to handle and view a large variety of locks and door hardware. The goal of this class is to provide each participant with a strong understanding of how these locks work. We will provide them with multiple options for forcing locks based on the tools they carry as well as a variety of other tools.

Types of locks include:

 Commercial and Residential Key and Knob Locks

 Residential Deadbolts

 Both Narrow Stile and Standard Mortise Locks

 Rim Locks (Vertical Night Latch and Surface Mounted)

 Loiding a Door - Both Inward and Outward (use of a shove knife)

 Forcing Double Hung or Check Rail Windows

 Panic Hardware

Each student will complete a skills sheet and receive a certificate of completion for their training records. This course is not designed to meet specific certification requirement, however, the content of this course meets parts of the requirements of NFPA 1001 Standards for Firefighter Professional Qualifications (5.3.4, 5.3.4A, 5.3.4B).

All instructors are certified through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs. Instructors have both volunteer and career fire and EMS experience enabling us to better meet the needs of your organization AND ALIGN AND APPLY THESE TECHNIQUES TO WHERE YOU WORK.

All tools and materials for the class will be provided.

*Each participant: please bring a pair of safety glasses and a pair of work gloves* and an OPEN MIND AND A READY TO WORK, READY TO LEARN ATTITUDE.
