Event description
Children with the Do the Write Thing will read excerpts from their essays, and the musicians and Sonia Plumb Dance Company will respond.

About this Event

Do The Write Thing helps children heal from violence of all types by challenging them to write about it. Each year over 90,000 middle school students across the USA write essays, and 50 make it into a book in the Library of Congress. These children will read excerpts from their essays, and the musicians will respond. We'll be joined by dancers from Sonia Plumb Dance Company.

A soundscape including the voices of children and short musical responses to these words written by several composers from around the world.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this event will be streamed in high quality from the chapel at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut. Students, faculty, and staff of the University of Saint Joseph are welcome to reserve a ticket to attend in person. Others may reserve a free, virtual ticket. We look forward to interacting with you throughout the concert, so feel free to join the conversation via comments.

Through the Eyes of Children is part of our 2020-2021 season "Musicians on the Frontlines," a series of free virtual concerts, talks and community events that explore the ways music creates positive change, and how it is adapting to a new world.

54% of the arts workforce in the United States has been lost since March 2020, making collaboration among organizations vital. Musicians on the Frontlines is presented as a partnership between Cuatro Puntos and the Autorino Center for the Arts at the University of Saint Joseph. Thank you for continuing to support the arts by attending our events!
