THRIVING ON A VEGAN OR PLANT BASED DIET
There is a saying “you are what you eat”, if that were true it would make all vegans a mix of broccoli, tofu, lentils and sun dried tomatoes with a dash of dates and mango. However, we know for sure there is a huge link between our brain and our digestive system. We may not be 100% what we eat, but what we consume inevitably affects our body and our mind. We often use expressions such as “gut feeling” or “butterflies in my stomach” etc which only describe a primal connection between our brain and our gut. The truth is that our brain and our digestive tract are connected by an extensive network of neurons. On top of this add a number of hormones that constantly work on providing feedback from one to another (signaling hunger, satiety, nervousness, stress, anxiety, indigestion etc) and you have a pretty busy and sophisticated system working 24/7.
We are not nutritionists, nor gut or brain experts, so please do not expect a discussion based on hard science and evidence based facts. So who we are then?... we are strength and conditioning professionals and athletes who decided to live on plant based nutrition and are still able to better our performance and body composition, we have made mistakes on the way and learned hugely by experience on what works and what does not.
During the workshop we will share the ways which make the vegan nutrition work as well as recipes, and we will aim to make you understand how to create great vegan dishes even if you don’t have any cook books at hand. As all of us lead busy lives the food we eat is simple, easy to make and easy to digest. It doesn't take much time to prepare but we can assure you that it is delicious. We use minimum specialist equipment and make sure the food gives us energy and a zest for life and training instead of overloading our digestive tract and causing a feeling of lethargy and heaviness.
