Event Details

Join Thrive East Bay on Sunday, November 20th as we explore the theme of Restoring A Nation with guest speaker Fania Davis, guest artist Amani Will / Wa Ama & the Lion Truth, and the Thrive East Bay Choir. In this time of national upset, we are being called to community, love, healing, and restorative justice more than ever before.

Thrive East Bay is a purpose-driven community of people committed to personal and social transformation. We are a new kind of community that is informed by modern science and ancient wisdom, infused with a deep sense of purpose and interconnectedness, and focused on social change. We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds as we engage in personal growth, shared learning, and collective action.

What: Thrive East Bay Sunday events are an opportunity to connect with a diverse and inspiring group of people; to be uplifted by music, singing, poetry, and story; and to experience the transformative power of community in service to a world that works for all.

Theme: Restorative Justice

Music: the Thrive East Bay Choir (directed by Stevie Greenwell)

Guest Speaker: Fania Davis is a leading national voice on restorative justice, a quickly emerging field which invites a fundamental shift in the way we think about and do justice. Restorative Justice is based on a desired set of principles and practices to mediate conflict, strengthen community and repair harm. She is a long-time social justice activist, Civil Rights trial attorney, restorative justice practitioner, writer, and scholar with a PhD in Indigenous Knowledge. The search for a healing justice led Fania to bring restorative justice to Oakland. A founder and currently Director of Restorative Justice of Oakland Youth (RJOY), Fania served as counsel to the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. Numerous honors include the Ubuntu award for service to humanity, the Dennis Maloney Award for excellence in Youth Restorative Justice, and World Trust's Healing Justice award. The Los Angeles Times recently named her a New Civil Rights Leader of the 21st Century.

Guest Artist: Amani Will / Wa Ama & the Lion Truth - I am an Altar of Free Being, a Midwife of the Creative Liberation Network, the Lion Truth. A Singing Poet BeatMan, Meditator, Educator, shit talking Irreverent Reverend. This is a Devotee of that Ascen-Dance Music right here, a Cosmic Love Ninja, Council-er Learning Non-stop, and it don't matter where the medicine goes when it flows; we behind prison, classroom, cultural, emotional, and psychic walls with the free, we in outdoor classrooms in the redwoods, we in the studio, on stage, in circle, on the corner, and in yours. We consult, program manage, facilitate, curriculum write. We be real talk making new rules with tears and true tall tales. We slap non-violence on stages, speaking peaces till we feel (w)hole. I am an Altar of Free Being, a Midwife of the Creative Liberation Network, the Lion Truth.
