Sammy Davis of THRIFT BABES

Sammy has worked in the secondhand style industry since 2009, when she quit an unfulfilling but "secure" fast track career in magazine publishing to "pursue the road less traveled." By 25, she had been featured on national TV, cast for a reality TV show "Thrift Wars," and built a 130,000 pageviews per month site, SammyDVintage.com. Her YouTube channel grew to 20,000 subscribers and in 2013, she published the book, "The 100 Best Vintage Shops Online 2013."

She has operated and managed a vintage boutique, sold vintage as a reseller at Brooklyn flea markets, worked on digital content projects with eBay, consulted with online secondhand sellers and brick & mortar owners, and done just a little bit of everything there is in the industry she loves and has chosen to dedicate her life to.

10 years later, she is the founder the NYC Bargain Thrift Store Tour and Flea Market Legend tour via Air B&B. Her Facebook group, THRIFT BABES, is a source of inspiration and community for women who want to live their best lives in looks for less. HOUSTON is her first THRIFT BABES retreat destination. Since March 2013, Jen and Pippa have been an inseparable thrifting duo. Almost immediately upon teaming up, the press opportunities started pouring in. Turns out people love to thrift! Jen & Pippa are featured on local and national programs quite often and love to share their tips and secrets to tackling the sometimes daunting task of thrifting.

During Saturday evening's networking event: Jen and Pippa will speak to us about their journey as thrift influencers and media correspondants, plus some tips they've learned along the way as spokeswomen for the thrifting community of Houston. Pam of It's Pam Del

It's Pam Del is a Houston lifestyle blog written by wife & mother of 2, Pam Del. Pam Del resides in the suburbs of Houston, Texas with her two children & husband. Pam Del has been blogging for over a decade as a way to express her creative passions, current obsessions & connect with like minded people. She loves sharing her quirky thrift store fashion finds, easy food recipes, style on a budget & travel with her family.

- Two PACKED days of thrifting with a community of like-minded women who have come together to have fun, discover finds and share in the joy of THRIFT together. Each thrift store we hit will have approximately 1 1/2 hours to shop. Stores have been chosen by the curation of TOO CHEAP BLONDES. Five special stores will be experienced.

- Unlimited wine/beer and light appetizer fare in a private dining room at Hotel Derek Saturday evening. Event begins approximately 7pm and ends approximately 9pm. Includes talks by Jen and Pippa of Too Cheap Blondes and Pam Del of It's Pam Del. Full dinner and/or additional food can be purchased at bars/restaurants outside of hotel. A restaurant list will be provided to attendees.

- Friday night private "deep dive" mastermind dinner in downtown Houston with Sammy Davis of THRIFT BABES. Dinner begins at 8pm (please plan travel to arrive by 7PM to make dinner in time). Dinner costs covered (alcohol costs not covered). Conversation will discuss your personal business goals, current situation, highs/lows and collaborative brainstorming amongst 11 other like-minded THRIFT BABES. Conversation prompts will be distributed a few weeks before retreat.

- Private Facebook group set up for post-retreat connection, discussion and collaboration between out-of-town and in-town retreat guests.

- Lunch provided for both Saturday and Sunday at sit-down restaurants. Menu choices to come. Please let me know if you have dietary needs and I will do my best to accomodate you.

- Transportation provided via a 15 person passenger van both days so you don't have to worry about driving or directions

- Hotel suggestion: Hotel Derek. Rooms can be purchased at $125 per night (plus 17% hotel tax) if all 12 out of town guests agree to stay at the hotel. Sammy Davis will reach out to you personally. - Enjoy unlimited wine/beer and light food fare (finger food)

- Photos, networking and dressing in your "thrift finest" (read: sequins!) encouraged

- For those who wish, Saturday evening after 9pm is open for late dinners or exploring Houston's night life

Out-of-towners, prepare to leave if your flight is scheduled for Sunday evening! Please have your luggage checked into the front desk before boarding the bus as check out time is 11am.

Optional activities for those staying through Monday will be emailed to the group. H-town awaits us THRIFT BABES! Sammy Davis of THRIFT BABES is leaving Monday morning.

// HOTEL RECOMMENDATIONS & ADVICE //

We are proudly working with Hotel Derek to provide a Saturday evening meet-up alongside our designated "meeting place" for Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Once tickets are purchased, a mass email will be sent to ticket bearers from out-of-town regarding block rates for rooms so that you can stay at an affordable rate.

Cost is $125 per night (before taxes) for the double rooms. We will help you coordinate who to stay with and split costs with, which you will need to work out between each other. If you would like a single room, please email Sammy (sammy@sammyd.tv) so that she can add an additional room to the reserved special rate rooms.

We recommend staying at Hotel Derek Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 and scheduling your flight to leave approximately 8PM CST or later on Sunday to be safe on time, as you will be back to hotel by 5:30pm on Sunday. You are welcome to stay Sunday night and leave Monday, or extend your trip to see family and friends in Houston!

This retreat ONLY has 25 spots available for safety and organization. You can apply to be on a waitlist, in the event that there is a random opening (no promises) or if an additional event is planned and you wish to be on that list.

This is non-refundable once purchased. You are purchasing every aspect of the retreat and cannot be refunded for any portion or event that you don't attend.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

You must be at least 18 years old to participate. We apologize, at this time minors are not allowed to participate. All sexual orientations (female, male, trans, etc.) are welcome here.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

A licensed, hired driver will be transporting the 12 out of town guests from hotel to thrift store and throughout the tour (between thrift stores, to the restaurant, and finally, back to the hotel). This transportation is provided as part of the ticket price to our 12 out of town guests. Depending on how many "in town" guests request transportation, I will rent another van and driver and distribute in town and out of town guests between both cars. You MUST order an "in town - TRANSIT INCLUDED" ticket to have access to this transportation.

For in town guests NOT purchasing a ticket with transit included, it is advised to carpool with other thrifters on the tour so that you can save gas, time and energy. If you choose this ticket, you are responsible for your own transportation to and from the thrift stores, to the restaurant, and between all stores on the tour. You are also responsible for transportation to the Saturday evening event if you so choose to attend. Parking at Hotel Derek costs $17 plus tax for self parking for 0 to 17 hours. Overnight parking costs $25 plus tax.

A complete list of addresses, directions and detailed itinerary will be sent to those attending as in-town guests.

In town guests who choose a ticket with transit included must meet group at Hotel Derek by 9:30am to board the van.

What can I bring into the event?

You are more than welcome to bring snacks, a camera, and of course, an open heart and mind! Please be advised that we will have at least 25 people in the thrift store at any given time, so fitting room access will be limited. Please wear appropriate clothing (think leggings and a sweater with a tank beneath) for easily trying on clothes without using the fitting room during the tour.

How are we going to fit 25+ people into these thrift stores?

Every single thrift store will be contacted prior to the event. However, I am not responsible for how long it takes to "check out" in each thrift store due to limited number of registers and employees. You will be advised to begin checking out as soon as you've completed your "thrifting." There will be a call to check out at the 30 minute mark and the 60 minute mark. A line of 5 can take up to 15 minutes to complete. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

What's the refund policy?

This is a NON REFUNDABLE, NON TRANSFERABLE ticketed event.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You are not required to bring a printed ticket to the event. Please bring a photo ID to confirm identity.

Can I update my registration information?

No, after you purchase your ticket, you cannot return to edit your contact information. Please contact event organizer (SammyD22@gmail.com) with any requested changes (misspellings, etc.)

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

No. Once booked under a name, that ticket is non transferrable.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

No. The name on the ticket must match the name on the photo ID presented at the time of the retreat.
