About this Event

Three Summer Workshops with Kimberly Dark

Brilliant Bystander Training

Friday, June 26, 2020

8 a.m. - 12 p.m. HST

By learning the skills of the "brilliant bystander," you can re-route conflict into useful discussion, restore fairness in power conflicts, and encourage others to participate. Practice strategies for redirecting a group, helping quiet folks speak up, and stopping a "discussion-bully."

Unconscious Bias Training

Saturday, July 11, 2020

8 a.m. - 12 p.m. HST

Treat ALL people with respect and dignity, care and welcome. Join us to gain tips to recognize, acknowledge, and work with your own and others' deeply ingrained stereotypes and how to kindly help when others are acting upon them.

Linguistic Re-framing Training

Friday, July 24, 2020

8 a.m. - 12 p.m. HST

Learn to understand and practice the skill of re-framing contentious, position-based statements into neutral language that helps everyone think more clearly and develop possible solutions. Focus on turning complaints into issues- the skill of re-framing and paraphrasing.

Kimberly Dark consulted in conflict resolution and facilitation for over 20 years. She is an award-winning writer and storyteller who wants you to reclaim your power as a social creator to make the world a better place. Her ability to make the personal political is grounded in her training as a sociologist, who teaches in Sociology at Cal State Marcos and Writing/Arts at Cal State Summer Arts. Dark lives on Hawai'i Island.

Tuition is $50 for one workshop and $125 for all three (individual needs-based partial scholarships available). Registrants will be provided a Zoom link. Register online or contact Majidah at Ku'ikahi Mediation Center for questions or scholarship applications at (808) 935-7844 ext. 3 or majidah@hawaiimediation.org.
