Join Selected Specialist, Westley Baker, to learn three strategies on how to manage student behaviors.

A teacher’s philosophy on kids and behavior informs their beliefs and actions towards managing misbehavior. For example, if a teacher believes that students misbehave when they do not have a strong (or loving) adult figure in their life, that teacher will act in a way that they believe fills that gap. In action, this translates to becoming a teacher who is too rigid because they are trying to provide the “strong” structure they believe the student is lacking.

In this training, participants will learn three ideas/concepts for understanding why a student misbehaves. These concepts are 1) unspoken rules, 2) the salt-shaker principle, and 3) LAS: skill lags. Together, we will read and analyze each concept and discuss how they personally show up in our homes/classrooms. From exploring these philosophies, participants shall expand their own philosophies on misbehavior which will affect how they manage and view misbehavior from their students.
