Music from three enlightened cities of Renaissance Europe

About this event

Pre-Concert Lecture - 7 pm

Motets in 4-8 voices by Orlande de Lassus, Philippe de Monte, and Jacob Handl

Munich, Vienna, and Prague are three cities that have long inspired the ideals of the Late Renaissance and endure to this day as monuments to these philosophies. These three cities and their opulent courts were centers of art and learning, as well as seats of the power of the Habsburg and Wittelsbach families. There is a long list of composers who labored within this sphere of influence, and the most celebrated were Orlande de Lassus, Philippe de Monte, and Jacob Handl. This concert of motets will celebrate the undeniable accomplishments of these composers around the turn of the 17th century and offer a glimpse into the enlightened cities in which they undertook most of their work.

We want everyone to be able to enjoy our concerts and we understand that not everyone may be able to afford the published ticket prices.
