Choose one, two, or all three workshops! Annette Shaffer will teach you how to use the techniques of rug hooking, prodding, quilling, and embroidery to create flowers, mixed media pieces, and mats made of quillies. Complete descriptions of each workshop follow, along with workshop fees and all materials needed. Register for each workshop separately. Questions? QUILLIE FLOWER ON A SPRING

Thursday, April 6, 2017 – 1pm to 4pm

Cost: $40 WGGC members / $53 non-members

Skill Level: Beginner, rug hooking experience not required.

Materials needed: Sharp fabric scissors and a mini-glue gun. (Hooks and frames will be provided.)

Materials Fee: Included in class fee.

Class Limit: 15

Using the tecniques of rug hooking, prodding, quilling, and embroidery, you will learn how to make a unique fiber flower with a quillie center. Handouts, pattern, and all the supplies needed to create one flower, with leaves and bedspring stand or twisty twig are provided.


FIBER FLOWER BOUQUET

Friday, April 7, 2017 – 9am to 4pm

Cost: $80 WGGC members / $105 non-members

Skill Level: Beginner

Materials needed: Sharp fabric scissors, thimble, needle nose pliers, pinking shears (if you have them)

Materials Fee: Included in class fee.

Class Limit: 15

Using hand sewing, wire, and glue, you will create six fiber flowers, each in a different style. These various techniques can also be used to create pins as well as embellish quilts, garments, or in other mixed media pieces. Detailed handouts as well as all fiber materials (wool, silk, organza, etc.) will be provided.


FREE FORM QUILLING MAT

Saturday, April 8, 2017 – 9am to 4pm

Cost: $80 WGGC members /$105 non-members

Skill Level: Beginner

Materials needed: Sharp fabric scissors, spool of upholstery thread in a neutral color, thimble

Materials Fee: Included in class fee

Class Limit: 15

You will learn how to quill strips of wool (rolled and then stitched) and then make circles, ovals, waves, and squiggles of wool in free form. You will learn how to stitch with one, two, or three strips at a time and make smooth transitions. Pre-cut wool strips and a quilling needle will be provided. Additional wool strips will be available for purchase.


Annette Shaffer, of Annie's Wool Works, specializes in dimensional rug hooking, pieces that can be "manipulated or constructed into a shaped, cut-out, 3-D, or free standing piece." She uses many fiber techniques, including beading, sewing, embroidery, and felting and has incorporated such varied materials as yarn, fabrics, twigs, wire, and old bed springs in her pieces.
