Event description

Description

During this discussion, participants will talk through a train derailment scenario in Prosser Washington. The discussion will focus on patient placement and tracking processes, and the communication tools involved. The discussion outcomes will help influence the exercise design for the Thomas Tantrum functional exercise on April 9, 2019.

Exercise Objectives

Patient Placement Coordination

First responders and first receivers will demonstrate the ability to coordinate and place patients from a mass casualty incident to most appropriate hospital based of the needs of the patient and to eliminate secondary transports.

Patient Tracking

During an MCI, EMS and hospitals will demonstrate the ability to track patient destinations with 100% accuracy throughout patient transport and transfer operations using existing organizational patient tracking processes and tools.

Communications

Demonstrate ability to communicate accurate incident information using emergency and backup communications systems across emergency response organizations and the healthcare system.

Medical Surge

Upon notification of a mass casualty incident, hospitals will demonstrate the ability to activate and perform internal medial surge protocols and operations throughout the duration of the incident.
