The Thomas-Laderman Quintet is a small ensemble based in New York City headed by flautists and composers Elijah J. Thomas and Michael Laderman. Performing original music and innovative arrangements that highlight the immense facility and artistry of the flute and the composers themselves, the Thomas-Laderman Quintet is sure to bring new and exciting sounds to the forefront of the New York music scene.

Elijah J. Thomas, a Philadelphia-born flutist, saxophonist, educator and composer began his musical journey at a very young age under the direction of Mr. John Zisk. A graduate of Temple University, Elijah holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Arranging & Composition and a Master of Music in Music Education from the Esther Boyer College of Music and Dance (with an instrumental concentration in flute and single reed instruments). Elijah has been fortunate to study woodwind performance and improvisation with notable jazz musicians Dick Oatts, Tim Warfield, Jr. and Walter Bell, as well as composition and orchestration under Kevin Rodgers, Dr. Cynthia Folio, Dr. Maurice Wright and Dr. Norman David. As an educator, Elijah has held teaching positions with Temple Music Prep, Settlement Music School, Tune Up Philly (of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra), The Shipley School, and The Primavera Fund. Currently, Elijah works for the New York City non-profit Education Through Music, Inc., acting as a PreK-5th grade elementary school music teacher and Band/Choir director in Staten Island. Additionally, he is an avid composer, with two full-length projects “Diversity” and “The Unity of Sound” released with his former group The NeW Quintet, available on iTunes, CD Baby and all other online retailers.
