A new play produced by Artists' Theater of Boston
Directed by Josh Glenn-Kayden
Performances August 17-18, and 24-25, at the Charlestown Working Theater, 8pm.
Curated talkback to follow each performance.
This Place/ Displaced is a new play that explores issues of gentrification, eviction, and displacement in Boston. Eight playwrights have partnered with a Boston community member, each of whom have personal histories with displacement and/ or eviction. This play explores the effects of displacement from home, the fight to keep it, and what is neglected or sacrificed in order to stay. Through interview processes, playwrights and partners have worked together to tell these personal stories in an evocative and truthful way. Original musical composition by Max Kennedy will be woven throughout the piece.
In addition to watching the production, audience members will have the chance to pick up Artists' Theater's original zine about the history and current climate of gentrification in Boston. There will be a visual lobby display detailing this history, as well as an exhibit of our community partners' own artwork and writing.
The Charlestown Working Theater is located at 442 Bunker Hill St, Charlestown MA. It is a five minute walk from Sullivan Station on the orange line. Street parking available.
