Join us for a reading of PLAY LA writer Gina Young's newest play "This is Why I Don't Come Home"! Presented by Theatre of NOTE.

About this Event

THIS IS WHY I DON'T COME HOME is the story of a prodigal daughter who returns home to her Italian-American family in New Jersey to discover that she's not the only one who is queer. It is the playwright's first attempt at realism and... well? We'll see.

Gina Young is a queer feminist playwright and director. Her plays, musicals and salons have been presented by The Hammer Museum, REDCAT, Highways, Los Angeles Performance Practice, USC’s Visions & Voices Series and the Women’s Center for Creative Work. She is a winner of the Jane Chambers Award for Playwriting and the Humanitas/PLAY LA Prize. She is also the creator of the #SORORITYseries, a performance salon for women, trans and queer creators that has a cult following in Los Angeles. www.ginayoung.com @ginagenius

Alina Phelan has been a Theatre of NOTE member since 1999 and has acted in and directed several plays there over the years. She currently runs the Young Writers Project, NOTE’s outreach program to local high schools, now in it’s 20th year. Past directorial escapades were Supper in 2017, Possum Carcass in 2014 and a re-mount of the favored NOTE holiday classic A Mulholland Christmas Carol in 2012. As an actress, she was most recently seen in For the Love Of (or the Roller Derby Play) at CTG Block Party and Theatre of NOTE. Other past Credits: ICT: Dead Man’s Cell Phone, All In The Timing.
