The London Documentary Network and the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, King’s College London proudly present the screening of six award-winning Peruvian short documentaries

Peru is often portrayed as a place of extremes – landscapes ranging from desert to mountains to jungle, spectacular ancient ruins, a world famous fusion cuisine, but also a stage for violent conflicts. These six award-winning short documentaries made by the talented Peruvian filmmakers Róger Neyra, Diego Sarmiento, Luisa García Alva and Francesca Canepa offer a deeper understanding of the complex country that lies behind these representations. The films (all to be screened with subtitles) give voice and presence to Peruvians whose compelling stories usually go untold; transporting, challenging and mobilising the viewer. This is Peru will give you an impression of the vibrant film industry in the country and showcase some of the creative filmmakers working at the moment.

The screening is free, however we kindly ask for a small donation for the social project “EmpoderArte”, an empowerment film workshop series for women from less advantaged backgrounds in Peru. Donations can be made on site. For further information please contact event organizer Karoline Pelikan.

Due to a limited number of seats, we recommend booking your ticket(s) in advance!

The event is kindly sponsored by the Embassy of Peru in the United Kingdom.
