Event description
Come experience the wonderful call-and-response Kirtan of Kalidasa and company!

About this Event

At the June Willimantic 3rd Thursday Festival, stop down to The Bhakti Center CT and experience the Kirtan of Kalidasa!

Kirtan is an ecstatic and meditative form of call and response singing. All are welcome to this easily accessible spiritual practice that quiets the mind and opens the heart. We sing divine names and mantras from the Hindu tradition of India, with traditional and contemporary melodies. Participants are invited to sit comfortably, sing as though no one is listening, clap their hands, and dance or do yoga if they feel so moved. Kirtan is a simple yet powerful and direct way to connect with self, spirit, source, and community.

Kalidasa Joseph Getter uses voice, harmonium, flute and drum to facilitate the kirtan session. He is a creative world musician with decades of experience in kirtan, experimental music, Jazz, Indonesian gamelan, Indian classical music, and music for yoga, theater, dance and sound healing. Serving on the faculty of several music schools, he leads the Wesleyan Youth Gamelan program and is music director of the Oddfellows Playhouse Children’s Circus. He lived in India for two years and has degrees in religion from Oberlin College and in ethnomusicology Wesleyan University.
