Event description

Description

With the forthcoming December 2018 elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo we find it pertinent to steer a discussion around their potential impact through the lens of reconciliation and economic development. Congo Today believes that reconciliation of the over 400 tribes of the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo is key to proving a lasting solution to the country’s instability. As part of our strategic plan to practically engage in the reconciliation process we are continuing the Reconciliation Series Conference with the theme, “The Role of a Peaceful Transition of Power in Fostering Reconciliation and Economic Development.” The conference provides a neutral arena where political leaders, business leaders, think tanks and scholars can productively interact and proffer ideas to drive the reconciliation process in the right direction.

The conference targets the Congolese diaspora, particularly youth seeking opportunities to heal as well as interface with top leaders in the DRC. Importantly, it offers a medium for connection to those who will not be in the DRC for the elections but who wish to voice suggestions to politicians and key stakeholder about sustaining an atmosphere of peace to advance the democratic transfer of power. The conference will spotlight economic opportunities to help the international community, investors, and business leaders make informed investment decisions attuned to the realities of the current political climate in the DRC.
