About Steve Forbes

Keynote speaker Steve Forbes is Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Media. His newest project is the podcast “What’s Ahead,” where he engages the world’s top newsmakers, politicians and pioneers in business and economics and discusses his signature views on the intersection of society, economics and policy. Mr. Forbes campaigned for the Republican nomination for the Presidency in 1996 and 2000. He is an accomplished author (books include Reviving America: How Repealing Obamacare, Replacing the Tax Code and Reforming The Fed will Restore Hope and Prosperity and Money: How the Destruction of the Dollar Threatens the Global Economy – and What We Can Do About It, co-authored by Elizabeth Ames), and the only writer to have won the highly prestigious Crystal Owl Award four times. The prize was formerly given by U.S. Steel Corporation to the financial journalist whose economic forecasts for the coming year proved most accurate.

About the McNair Institute for Entrepreneurism and Free Enterprise at the University of South Carolina

The McNair Institute for Entrepreneurism and Free Enterprise at the University of South Carolina promotes scholarly activity, educates students about the role of free enterprise and entrepreneurship in enhancing economic growth, and encourages students to contribute and participate through entrepreneurism in creating a better America.

The Institute is funded through the generosity of the Robert and Janice McNair Foundation which also funds centers at multiple other universities across the nation supporting entrepreneurship and free enterprise education. Under the guiding vision of Robert and Janice McNair, the foundation is committed to developing a new generation of entrepreneurial leaders who have both the technical skills and the philosophical understanding of how the free enterprise system forms the basis of economic opportunity and prosperity for individuals in our country.

About the McNair Entrepreneurship Showcase

The third annual McNair Entrepreneurship Showcase is slated for Friday, January 31, 2020, hosted by the University of South Carolina McNair Institute for Entrepreneurism and Free Enterprise and featuring Steve Forbes as the keynote speaker at 3pm. The showcase is designed to inspire, invigorate and inform students, business leaders and alumni about entrepreneurship and innovation in South Carolina. The afternoon showcase event is free and open to the public and is presented by the Young Americas Foundation. Previous showcases have featured Alli Webb, founder and chief creative officer of Drybar and Dave Knox, best-selling author of Predicting the Turn: The High Stakes Game of Business Between Startups and Blue Chips.

In addition, UofSC alumni will be showcasing their companies as well as detailing their unique personal journeys to owning their own businesses. The showcased companies represent a variety of industries such as technology, consumer goods, and marketing. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to interact with leaders in the community as well as resource providers for starting a company. Featured entrepreneurs and resource providers to be announced! What are my parking options for the event?

The Senate has a small parking lot, available on a first come, first served basis. The City of Columbia operates the nearby Park St. Garage at 1007 Park St., and street parking may also be available nearby.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No.

Are there items that cannot be taken into the event?

The venue does not allow weapons, open flames/lit candles, drugs (including over-the-counter), alcohol, or live animals (service animals are permitted).

What is the recommended dress for the event?

We encourage business casual or smart casual for this event.
