We'd love if you would reserve a part of your evening on Saturday, December 10 starting at 7 p.m. for our third annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. We are excited to be hosting this year's festival at Christ Church, which has had a presence on Capitol Hill since 1806. Please RSVP here by Wednesday, December 7 to let us know if you plan to attend.
Rooted in a century-long tradition, our festival service is an imaginative retelling and response to the birth of Christ and his promise to make all things new -- today and forever. The service progresses through an extended nativity story that draws from Genesis, the prophecies of Isaiah and the Gospels. Those readings are interlaced with poetry, song, and other artistic expressions, all an invitation to pause amid the busyness of our city to consider the mystery and hope represented in the Advent season.
For those of us who produce the festival each year, the process of digging, reflecting, and responding has become an essential rhythm during this season. We think of the festival as a gift -- a gift to us as we connect with this story creatively, and a gift we are honored to share with our friends and community.
As attendance to the festival has grown over the last few years and our expenses have increased, this year we are asking those who join us to consider making a small donation to help cover the cost of producing this service. A portion of what we receive will be gifted to a local organization that supports children and the arts. The donation is an opportunity to participate in this gift and to invest in our community during this season, but it is not required, so please don’t let it keep you from attending.
If you’d like to contribute financially, you may send a donation via PayPal to Courtney at email@example.com. We will also collect donations the night of the service.
We hope you’ll be able to join us as we worship, sing, and celebrate together. We'll have a light reception following the service.
