Description

WHAT

You are invited to attend the Third Annual Interagency FedServe STEM Volunteer Fair on Friday, June 24, 2016 sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service in partnership with other federal agencies.

Attend this event to meet STEM organizations and schools in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area that need your help. Hear from the organizations about their current needs, upcoming events, and their areas of focus so you can find ways to use your talents to inspire the future STEM workforce. We need all hands on deck, and your support will make a huge impact.

We hope you will join us. Please RSVP by June 22 so we can provide names to the USDA security office. We will send additional information about how to get into the USDA building and share additional logistics.

If you are outside of the greater DC area or unable to attend, please visit SERVE.gov to find STEM volunteer opportunities in your area.

BACKGROUND

America’s ability to meet the demands of our future depends, in part, on having a trained, passionate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce. The federal workforce has an opportunity to do all that is possible to attract, engage, educate, and inspire the next generations of STEM workers.

The fair follows President Obama’s call to the 200,000+ federal scientists and engineers to identify and pursue STEM-related volunteer activities in their communities, with an emphasis on inclusive engagement with all segments of society. Women and minorities make up 70 percent of college graduates, but only 45 percent of STEM degree holders – leaving a large pool of talented professionals out of the STEM field. The volunteer fair will have a special focus on programs and organizations that provide services to close these participation gaps.
