Event description

Description

On the Road to Wellness is pleased to announce our Third Annual Breakfast, featuring a keynote presentation from Daniel Fisher, M.D., Ph.D., Co-Founder and CEO of the National Empowerment Center. Dan is a role model for others who are struggling to recover from mental health challenges, and his life dispels the myth that people do not recover from mental illness. He is a person who has recovered from schizophrenia. He was hospitalized several times prior to becoming a psychiatrist, and is one of the few psychiatrists in the country who publicly discusses his recovery from mental illness. His recovery and work in the field were recognized by his selection as a member of the White House Commission on Mental Health.

Dr. Fisher's keynote presentation will highlight the components of recovery of a person's life in the context of community, and the ways that peers are able to bridge the gap between the clinical world and the self-help worlds.

Come with a friend, co-worker, or significant other and join us for a morning of genuine inspiration. All attendees will enjoy a delightful breakfast provided by the popular Puritan Restaurant kitchen. Proceeds from the event benefit On the Road to Wellness’s members through programs and activities designed to enhance their journey to create a positive future for themselves.

"Since 1988, On the Road to Wellness has worked to support adults who have wrestled with issues surrounding mental health, homelessness and substance misuse. Many have grown up in high-risk environments and carry with them the trauma of those early experiences," says David Blacksmith, On the Road to Wellness Executive Director.

Peer Support is a vital piece of a person's puzzle when navigating through mental health challenges.
