Event description
Learn about how we think about complexity, how we make decisions and why we often don't think through the consequences of today's decisions.

About this Event

This workshop explores how we think and act in organisational settings, why we frequently create systems that frustrate us, and what we can do differently.

This workshop has taught over 500 participants in recent years, with significant system-level and organisational changes transpiring as a result.

We explore mental models, systems archetypes, complexity (Cynefin), nudge theory, team structural dynamics, unintended consequences, the impact of systems on culture, team and organisational performance, "teams as systems" and much more.

Following the workshop, in-depth clinic sessions are available for organisations who want to explore specific issues and learn how to apply the tools and techniques covered in the 2-day workshop on issues they need to dive deeper on, or do not wish to share in an open workshop.

Discounts for groups of 4 or more are available, custom in-house workshops are also available on request.

  • All participants receive an in-depth workshop manual.
  • Morning tea, lunch & afternoon tea is provided. Food preferences & allergies will be accomodated where possible, but not guaranteed.
  • Note: Venue may change, depending on numbers.

Testimonials

More about Hamish and the team at Stravaig is at https://www.stravaig.co.nz/our-team

  • The facilitator (Hamish) was very knowledgeable, personable, a good listener and able to foster good learning discussion. The learning tools were also good - a nice balance between data in the text book, practical exercises in groups, videos to watch, and class discussion.
  • Interactive.
  • Content and links to design were good. Good group of participants with varied knowledge.
  • The awareness that systems are designed to give the results that we get (not people); sometimes it is the absence of information that is important
  • The variety of ways used in it, from talks, demonstrations, theory etc..
  • Having time away to focus on something - being able to think about how this impacts on my work - talking with others on similar issues
  • Interactive nature
  • I like being challenged and think the material covered in this workshop challenged my natural thought processes
  • Multimedia, well researched.
  • The pace, applying to real work place problems.
  • Learning style, interactive, presentation.
  • Cynefin decision making framework
  • Lots of practical examples and stories.
  • Facilitation was very good; Content was accessible; Pace was about right; Group size and dynamic was good.
  • Interesting subject matter, the opportunity to learn skills that will be helpful to my area of work
  • Delivery. Module development. Practical simulation.
  • Hamish keeps the workshop dynamic and reads how the participants are reacting well (and then changes things up if necessary). Met new people from my organisation.
  • I guess I hadn’t thought too much about systems and the roles that we all play in them. Certainly made me much more aware of how systems can work well and traps that you can fall into.
