TCP SP17 WORKSHOP:
TITLE:Thinking For Yourself is Hard: How to Get College Students to Think Critically
DESCRIPTION: Do the students you tutor seem to want step-by-step directions or “recipes” for success instead of thinking for themselves? In this workshop we will demonstrate and model tactics to get students to solve problems, construct and analyze arguments, and understand the importance of understanding processes not just solutions. We will also give you specific strategies you can use in tutoring sessions to ask powerful questions to get students to think more critically and solve problems for themselves This workshop will help you feel comfortable teaching and promoting these important critical thinking skills to the students that you tutor.
