Think Pink Crop and Craft for the Cure
Event Information
About this Event
What is Think Pink Crop for a Cure?
Think Pink Crop for a Cure is an all day scrapbooking and crafting event supporting breast cancer charities including the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk teams and the 2020 Mamma Jamma Ride. Funds raised on behalf of the Mamma Jamma Ride support local breast cancer charities as well as the Susan G. Komen foundation. Funds raised on behalf of Susan G. Komen are used to fund more research, to provide mammograms and other diagnostic services, as well as bring awareness to the cause and to assist those currently receiving treatment for breast cancer.
This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have elected to host a virtual online event rather than our traditional, in-person crop party. Participants will have access to our Zoom video conference "craft room" where they can chat with other crafters in real time while they craft in the comfort of their own home. Participants will also have access to our private Facebook group where they can take part in raffles, auctions, door prizes and make-n-takes as well as shop from our vendors and sponsors.
How did it start?
It all started as a group of friends getting together to help our good friend and fellow scrapbooker, Pam Wilemon. Pam was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. Shortly after that, a group of her friends got together in Conroe, Texas to raise money to help pay some of her medical bills. Crafty Neighbor wanted to help, too, so we organized our first ever Pam's Pals Benefit Crop. The event was a huge success and helped to raise several thousand dollars to help pay Pam's medical bills. We repeated the event again in 2009.
Pam is doing much better now, but the cause is so important to us that we dediced to keep going, donating the proceeds to a charity that is very close to our heart -- the Susan G. Komen Foundation. In 2011 and 2012, we teamed up to walk in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. We walked 60 miles over the course of 3 days to help put an end to breast cancer forever. Then, starting in 2013, we renamed our annual Pam's Pals event to be called the Think Pink Crop for the Cure.
What's Next?
Every 74 seconds, somewhere in the world, someone dies of breast cancer. It affects mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, friends, fathers, brothers, sons and uncles, too. In fact, 1 in every 8 women will be diagnosed in their lifetime. But with the help of people who support events like Think Pink for the Cure and the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, we may one day be able to say that NO ONE dies of breast cancer and that no one has to ever again hear those devastating 4 little words, "You have breast cancer." Please help us eradicate this deadly and debilitating disease by continuing to support Think Pink Crop for the Cure, Walkers, Texas Rangers, and the Susan G. Komen 3-Day.
We are passionate about PINK! In 2016, Cindy Murray, the founder of Crafty Neighbor, was also diagnosed with breast cancer, so we will not give up until we just can't fight any more. We continue to be involved with the Susan G. Komen 3-Day every year, either as walkers, crew, volunteers, or support for other teams, and this year, we will be riding in the Mamma Jamma Ride in Martindale, Texas. We also continue to host our Think Pink for the Cure events so long as participants keep coming to them and we have enough volunteers to make it happen. As always, the proceeds from every event will help support our 3-Day walk teams and other breast cancer events and charities.
