About this Event

Join Humanities Kansas for a fast-paced conversation about class and rural America with Sarah Smarsh, author of Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth.

Enjoy free food and a cash bar as we let our conversations go where they go and inspire one another with new ideas.

The event will be held in the Cottonwood 2 Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel, 6100 College Boulevard in Overland Park.*

The cash bar opens at 6:00pm. The presentation begins at 6:30pm.

Sarah Smarsh is an author, speaker, and journalist who focuses on socioeconomic class and rural America. Her book Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth, an instant New York Times bestseller and a finalist for the National Book Award, examines economic inequality through her upbringing among the working poor on a Kansas farm.

The Raven Book Store will be selling copies of Heartland and a book signing follows the event.

This event is presented in partnership with the Kansas Library Association.

*Please note that this event takes place at the Sheraton Overland Park Hotel and is not located in the adjacent Overland Park Convention Center. The hotel is located to the west of the Overland Park Convention Center.
