Event description

Description

Think City Talks is a series of free public lectures that highlight ways to create more liveable and sustainable cities. Organised by Think City, a community-focused urban regeneration organisation.

Speakers:

David Tan is a researcher at United Nations University – International Institute for Global Health. His talk will focus on mobility as a critical tool for improving health in the city, and how moving away from car-centric designs could halt rising obesity and diabetes rates in Malaysia. He will also discuss how systems thinking can help identify these leverage points for change.

James Speirs is a South African researcher based in Kuala Lumpur with an interest in urban mobility. Having lived in global cities as diverse as Cape Town, São Paulo, and Beijing, he has acquired an interest in how we move. His talk will consider pedestrian infrastructure from three perspectives - a practical issue of mobility, a social perspective, and from an aesthetic standpoint as it pertains to quality of life.

Ian Goh is an entrepreneur and currently the Business Development Manager at oBike, a dock-less bicycle sharing services platform. Ian will discuss the reception, usage, and challenges faced by oBike since its launch in April, as well as what this means for the future of transportation in KL.
