This course is for international postgraduate researchers in Science, Medicine and Engineering and will be delivered by experienced tutors of Academic English from Birmingham International Academy (BIA). The course consists of 5 individual sessions that will take you through the main stages of thesis writing: Structure & introductions, Literature Review, Methods, Results & Discussion, Conclusion & Abstract. Please note that this is a repeat of sessions run in 2015/16. You do not have to attend all sessions. Each session is stand-alone and may be attended independently. In this session (Literature Reviews) we will look at what exactly is meant by ‘reviewing the literature’ and examine some different approaches to structuring a literature review in scientific theses. We will also look at different ways of indicate your critical stance through the use of language when introducing and commenting on the work of others.
