Event description
Did you know it's legal to hold a funeral ceremony at home? We will introduce the beauty of home funerals and natural green burial.

About this event

Details

"A home funeral happens when a loved one is cared for at home or sacred space after death, giving family and friends time to prepare the body, file legal paperwork, and gather and grieve in private." ~National Home Funeral Alliance

In the spirit of bringing back family-led after-death care, we will introduce the concept of home funeral ceremony through visual presentation and discussion.

You will see how one family cared for their dying loved one at home and how their care continued in the form of funeral ceremonies in the comfort of the deceased person's home.

You will see community visitation, shrouding, beautifying the space, and the use of the natural environment to honor the deceased. You will see some visual possibilities to ignite your imagination and inspire your own personal home funeral plan.

This is not a step-by-step home funeral training presentation.

Also in the spirit of bringing back the tradition of family-led after-death care, the emerging option of natural Green Burial will be briefly introduced. Families have the option of creating personalized ceremonies at the graveside.

Natural green burial is an environmentally sustainable option that allows the natural decomposition of human remains back to the earth. No toxic chemicals are allowed and only earth-friendly caskets or shrouds are used.

We will have time at the end of the presentation for Q&A.

Presenter

Akhila Murphy, Founding Director of Full Circle of Living and Dying. Akhila is a trained End of Life Doula and after-death care educator.

We will present this one-hour session in Zoom Meeting format. We will have a fifty-minute presentation + 10 minutes or so of Q&A.
