About this event
Arizona arts supporters & community members, help is needed! Cultural worker, poet, and rapper Sean Avery Medlin is without income for 6 months with high rent costs. They’re raising money to stabilize their living situation and pay bills while pouring time and energy into their debut book launch “808s & Otherworlds: Memories, Remixes, and Mythologies”.
On Friday July 30th, at Audubon Arizona (indoors), Medlin and friends are hosting “There’s A Lot To Unpack: Artist Showcase & Fundraiser”, featuring Arizonian musicians, poets, DJs, and vendors! There will also be raffle of paintings, prints, crochet pieces, vintage fashion, and much more from local artists, vendors, and sellers! OUR GOAL IS 16K FOR MEDLIN'S LIVING EXPENSES THROUGH DECEMBER 2021!

The event title "There's A Lot To Unpack" is the showcase's theme. All work presented speaks to the context and complications of working as an artist in a world driven by exploitation, tokenization, and discrimination. After each performance by our Featured Artists, there will be a short interview about the artist's work to literally begin unpacking these larger, systemic barriers.
With the Uprising behind us, we need cultural work centered in Black Liberation. Medlin’s work may be literary and musical, but these mediums disseminate ideas crucial to organizing with, and within, Black southwestern communities.
Local organizations have agreed to match whatever is raised up to our goal !!! (if we raise 8K, they’ll match 8K, etc)
LET’S GOOOOOOOO !!!!
