Event description

Birth Trauma impacts 30% of Families

We know birth matters

Those of us who support postpartum families know that the experience of our birth stays with us and has a lasting impact. How we feel about our birth begins the story of our parenting.

I get called all the time

As a therapist who specializes in birth-related trauma, I am contacted weekly by clients across the United States who are looking for mental health providers that "get it". Time and again, they are disappointed and feel alone and overwhelmed. I know good therapists who "get it" are out there! We need to find a way to connect. That's what this class is truly about.

As a mental health professional...

do you see your clients develop trauma from their births? Do you feel overwhelmed or just need some clarity about it?

While over 30% of those giving birth describe the experience as traumatic, up to 8% will go on to develop PTSD as a result of the experience. As perinatal mental health providers, we will undoubtedly work with traumatic births and yet we are given little if any information about best practices. What are we supposed to do here?

Can we do anything?

Over a decade ago I spent years trying to find information on this topic for mental health professionals. I came up short every time! Why? We just weren't talking about it. It took me a long time to learn this information, but it turns out- birth trauma is highly treatable!

I love working with this population because they are motivated, they see rapid results and their healing impacts the parent/child dyad immediately! Multi-generational healing is real, and I get to see it in my office all the time! My heart swells every time I see another new mom and dad walk out of my office with a smile. Yours will too.

In this LIVE webinar class (limited tickets available) we will discuss:

  • What is birth trauma?

  • Which of your clients are most at risk for PTSD after birth?

  • What are the signs of birth trauma and how do we distinguish it from other perinatal disorders?

  • What are evidence-based and experience-supported approaches to treat trauma symptoms after birth?

This class is for masters-level students, registered interns or licensed mental health professionals only. We will assume a masters degree level of mental health and trauma vocabulary and dig deeply into assessment, diagnostic and treatment modalities.

After this class you will have a deeper understanding of the subject of birth trauma as well as immediately applicable new skills for therapy with your clients. You will leave the class (finally!) equipped to grapple with this timely and important topic.
