Modern forms of theistic evolution usually fully embrace the standard neo-Darwinian version of evolution. As a result, they reject the idea of an original human pair and evidence for the intelligent design of life. But is this view correct? On April 6-7 in Philadelphia, join scientists from Discovery Institute and theologians from Westminster Theological Seminary as they critically assess the major claims of theistic evolution from the standpoint of science, philosophy, and theology.

Featured speakers will include scientists and scholars who contributed to the new volume Theistic Evolution: A Scientific, Philosophical, and Theological Critique (Crossway) as well as leading theology faculty from Westminster Theological Seminary. Specific participants include philosopher of science Stephen Meyer, author of Signature in the Cell and Darwin’s Doubt; theologian Vern Poythress, author of Redeeming Science; biologist Ann Gauger, co-author of Science and Human Origins; theologian Richard Gaffin, author of By Faith, Not By Sight; social scientist John West, editor of The Magician’s Twin: C.S. Lewis on Science, Scientism, and Society; and theologian Scott Oliphint, author of Reasons for Faith.

Conference sessions will explore topics such as evolution and the problem of the origin of information, the genetics of Adam and Eve, fossils and human origins, the theological importance of an historical Adam, the failure of theistic evolution in its picture of God, C.S. Lewis’s views on evolution, and more. Plus there will be a special screening of a new award-winning documentary, Human Zoos, which explores how claims about human origins have led to the devaluation of human life and the violation of human rights. Download the tentative conference agenda.

This conference will be held at Proclamation Presbyterian Church in the greater Philadelphia area and is co-sponsored by Westminster Theological Seminary, Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture,  Pensmore Foundation, and Crossway Books.
