TheGlint Contributing to Heroism Abroad: Empowering the People of Sarawak

San Francisco, CA
Sarawak is a Malaysian state situated on the island of Borneo, one of the last vestiges of bio-diversity on the planet. After 30 years of heavy timber exploitation followed by massive grabbing of Native Customary Right land (NCR) for oil palm plantations, the state government is launching a plan to build 12 mega-dams in the state. The construction of the mega- dams will inevitably lead to the destruction of Sarawak’s vast natural habitat, rich heritage and the relocation of tens of thousands of rural indigenous people. The indigenous way of life and bio-landscape would be irrevocably changed for the worse.
Join us for a flash fundraising event where you will get to meet global hero, Cynthia Ong (Founder and Executive Director of LEAP), as she presents on the immediate needs of the indigenous people of Sarawak. Come and learn how you can help and redesign heroism.
