About this event
By making a donation with your ticket registration, you are helping to support theatre artists working in oppressed and dangerous conditions in countries/regions experiencing increased authoritarianism and loss of civil rights. Please be as generous as you are able to be.
NPTC is pleased to invite you to the next sessions for Round Two of THEATRE FROM THE STREETS, our virtual platform for artists and activists to connect across borders and to use the medium of theatre to bring authentic stories of average citizens to a wider audience. Each session consists of 4 new original short works with a Moderator putting the pieces in context for our audience. All pieces are performed in English in a 90-minute live Zoom meeting.
Round Two began with a spotlight on The Philippines curated by Charles Yee, a Chinese-Filipino artist-educator. He recently completed an MFA in Directing from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) through the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, the Asian Cultural Council, and a Lillian Disney Scholarship. Under his leadership, we were able to experience powerful new work from artists working in the many different regions in The Philippines.
Now we travel to Hungary, with two sessions curated by Zsófi Rebeka Kozma. Born in Budapest, she came to the US to study Sociology then transferred, getting her BA in Theater from Hunter College/CUNY. Having returned to Hungary, she is now focused on autobiographical, interactive and movement theatre. She recently created her first solo performance, Present Imperfect, as a student at the Freeszfe Society. Zsófi was a 2021 European Theater Convention Artist in Residence and is part of the 2022/23 Titánium Grant program for new project development.
Audiences are invited to engage in a moderated discussion immediately following the presentations, to deepen our understanding of the lived experiences of marginalized and oppressed peoples in these areas.

NEW PERSPECTIVES THEATRE COMPANY (NPTC) is an award-winning, multi-racial company performing for the last 30 years in Midtown Manhattan, communities throughout NYC and the Northeastern U.S., and as of 2015, internationally. The Company’s mission is to: develop and produce new plays and playwrights, especially women and people of color; present classic plays in a style that addresses contemporary issues and restores forgotten female theatre practitioners to the Canon; and extend the benefits of theatre to young people and communities in need. Our aim is not to exclude, but to cast a wider net.
