Event description

Description

A Midsummer Nights Dream by William Shakespeare is presented through the medium of Gaelic

Performed by Daibhidh Walker, Directed by Liz Carruthers, Pupperty Director Gavin Glover, Produced by Glasgow Life in 2017.

Macbeth as a one-man show? Easy enough: you get someone to play Macbeth. But A Midsummer Night’s Dream–not so simple! In the end, though, it's Puck that tells us the story. What about all the other characters. The king and Queen of the fairies Oberon and Titania, the lovers lost in the woods, Bottom the enthusiastic amateur actor? Well, David Walker can play all these parts as well, with the help of some unusual friends

As for the words, well, we hope that at least some of the vigour and beauty of the original Shakespeare text comes through in the Gaelic. It’s true that the characters are people from a different era and with different expectations, but they're still humans like us- even if they don; t always look like it. Even the fairies can behave in a very human way at times!

The text is performed in Gaelic but you won’t need much translation, this is visual, theatre at its best. There is live music to follow this event please stay for tea and enjoy the music.
