THE YUNG MULATTO PROJECT:
OPENING EVENT & MENTAL HEALTH FORUM

TODAY
Sunday October 13, 2019 - 1pm to 5pm

THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

The Yung Mulatto Project is a free event to commemorate the work of the late Pittsburgh artist, Miles Saal, also known as Yung Mulatto. This event will also showcase live performances by local African American artists with whom he collaborated, while also promoting advocacy for mental health awareness in the Pittsburgh African American arts community.

The goal of this project is to preserve the legacy and collaborative work of Miles Saal who succumbed to his battle with depression in late 2017. The artistic mission of Miles was to advance the creative projects and work of other artists in Pittsburgh, as well as his own work. An additional goal of The Yung Mulatto Project is to debut a culturally competent mental health forum support group specifically for African American Pittsburgh artists, although all are welcome.

This project will feature the visual art work of Miles via a public art exhibit at the August Wilson Center that will be displayed from October 13th to December 8th. The Yung Mulatto Project will also feature a book archive of his art work which will also incorporate his spirit of collaboration, cultural criticism, mentorship and community support. A limited number of copies of the book archieve will be available for purchase at the opening event. For those who cannot make the event or for out-of-town inquiries, please submit requests to: info@AtypicalArts.com

This opening event will also feature other young African American artists in live performance (Clara Kent, LiveFromTheCity, Alona Williams, Corrine Jasmin, Shakara Wright and deejay aesthetics), as well as special filmed tributes from Benji and Mars Jackson who are unfortunately unable to participate due to their tour schedules. All of these artists collaborated with Miles. We will conclude the event with a special performance and musical tribute by Miles’ personal mentor and Grammy nominated artist, Dave Eggar.

Funding for The Yung Mulatto Project was provided by the Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh Program, a partnership of The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments.
