Deepen your practice and apply the timeless wisdom of Yoga to 21st century life with this 8 week course.

You love Yoga and want to dive deeper into your practice. You're curious about the philosophy, where and how Yoga started, what some of the terminology means and how you can develop a home practice. You may have thought about teacher training but aren't quite ready to take that leap.

Whether you're new to Yoga or have been practicing for years, The Yoga companion is a great complement to your asana classes, whatever your preferred style. The course is suitable for anyone looking to deepen their practice and integrate the timeless wisdom of Yoga into everyday life.

Course dates:
Sunday 3rd September to Sunday 22nd October.
Classes run each Sunday from 4-6pm apart from September 17 & October 8 when class will run from 5-7 due to a pre-existing booking.
Please arrive 10 minutes before class starts.

Over 8 weeks we'll explore:

  • Yoga Philosophy
  • Origins of Yoga
  • The eight limbs
  • Yamas and Niyamas
  • Yogic physiology
  • Yoga Sutras
  • Commonly used Yoga terminology

The course will consist of theory, group discussion, practice, self enquiry and journaling. On completion you'll:

  • know your Yamas from your Niyamas
  • have a grounding in Yoga history, philosophy and physiology
  • be able to develop a home practice and Yoga routine
  • know how to take your Yoga 'off the mat'
  • advance your practice
  • enhance your self-knowledge
  • improve your wellbeing

What you’ll need

  • notebook & pen and/or your journal
  • wear something comfortable and suitable for gentle practice


All Yoga equipment provided but you're welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer.

FAQs

I'm new to Yoga, is that okay?

This course is suitable for all levels and beginners are absolutely welcome. It's a great way to dive in and understand Yoga and all that it has to offer.

Does this count towards a teacher training qualification?

The course isn't yet affiliated with a particular teacher training school but will provide an excellent platform and head start for future learning should you decide teacher training is right for you.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Minimum age is 18.

I can't make one of the dates, does that matter?

That's fine, we'll record the session for you.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Trams: Smith Street Tram 86 stop 21

Parking: Please read the signs for a Sunday but there are parks out the front and around the venue.

Bikes: There is a bike rack out the front of the Gasometer Hotel on the corner of Alexandra Pde.

Will we be practicing Asana?

The course is an excellent complement to your existing Asana classes. We may practice some gentle Asana from time to time but the Yoga Companion is designed to help you dive into the other aspects of Yoga. Expect lots of hearty discussion, some relaxation, meditation and gentle movement. Don't expect to work up a sweat.
